Position Summary
The Avionics Technician is responsible for installing, inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing aircraft electrical and electronic systems. This includes communications, navigation, surveillance, and instrumentation systems. The role requires attention to detail, the ability to follow technical documentation, and a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, inspect, and service avionics systems including radios, transponders, GPS units, ADS-B, autopilots, and flight instruments.
- Troubleshoot and repair faulty components using test equipment, schematics, and manuals.
- Perform system functional and operational checks to ensure proper performance.
- Complete pitot-static and transponder certifications per FAR 91.411 and 91.413 (if qualified).
- Wire, terminate, and route aircraft wiring harnesses according to drawings and best practices.
- Document work performed in maintenance records and work orders in compliance with FAA regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas and care for tools and equipment.
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, coworkers, and customers regarding work performed and system status.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or avionics training preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on avionics experience (installation, troubleshooting, or repair).
- Familiarity with avionics systems from manufacturers like Garmin, Avidyne, BendixKing, and Dynon.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in elevated or confined spaces.
Preferred but Not Required:
- FAA Airframe or A&P Certificate
- Repairman Certificate (under FAA Part 145)
- FAA-certification experience under Part 91/135/145
- FCC GROL or NCATT certification
- Familiarity with test equipment (e.g., IFR test sets, multimeters, pitot-static testers)
