The Sr. Certification Engineer acts as an interface with both the FAA and international certifying authorities in matters regarding type certification and validation of Cirrus Design aircraft and equipment installations. The Sr. Certification Engineer shall have demonstrated proficiency with 14 CFR Part 21 requirements and related FAA policy, and with international regulations and validation procedures, through experience with the certification and validation of aviation products. The Sr. Certification Engineer leads certification activities to ensure a timely progression occurs from project planning through type certification approval. Further, the SR. Certification Engineer monitors post-type certification service difficulties and coordinates corrective action plans with the FAA and international authorities. It is preferred that the Sr. Certification Engineer have sufficient experience to qualify as an ODA Administrator.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Create Project Specific Certification Plans (PSCP) that meets project team objectives, aligns with FAA policies, and identifies areas where new policy must be developed.
- Lead Cirrus certification and validation activities including internal coordination with project management, engineering technical specialists, quality assurance, and external coordination with suppliers, industry counterparts, FAA and international authorities.
- Lead certification and validation meetings including type boards and technical reviews and ensure proper preparation and participation is accomplished.
- Review certification documents to ensure they meet the requirements of the certification plan.
- Escalate certification and validation issues and coordinate responses to regulatory questions and formal Issue Papers and Certification Review Items.
- Create certification reports to ensure project knowledge is captured at project conclusion.
- Participate in internal design and project reviews where certification issues will be discussed.
- Provide regulatory guidance, training and leadership to engineering and quality personnel.
- Monitor service difficulty reports and make notification to FAA upon determination of an unsafe condition.
- Coordinate the development of service difficulty corrective action plans and monitor completion.
- Coordinate corrective action plans and obtain acceptance of both plans and final reports.
- Develop and submit responses to FAA questions regarding certification and continued operational safety conditions.

- With an engineering bachelors degree, a minimum of 6 years of experience in certification, regulatory compliance, or aviation maintenance.
- Without an engineering bachelors degree, a minimum of 10 years of experience in certification, regulatory compliance, or aviation maintenance.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to read, write and speak the English language.
- Proficient technical writing and speaking communication skills
- Basic MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
- Knowledge of aircraft certification procedure, Part 21 regulation and associated guidance/policy
- Knowledge of aircraft design, manufacturing, and/or maintenance
- Preferred knowledge of Part 23 and associated guidance/policy
