De Havilland Aircraft of Canada is currently recruiting a Flight Test Engineer to join our team in Calgary, AB.
Reporting to the Flight Testing Manager with the De Havilland Flight Operations (DFO) & Test Department, this role requires the Flight Test Engineer to plan, execute and report test results to the DHC Product Development Teams.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate under the day-to-day authority/supervision of the Manager of Flight Test Engineering
- Collaborate with key stakeholders within Product Development (i.e. System Engineering, Flight Sciences, etc.) and Project Management personnel to develop/define test strategies and plans
- Create flight test schedules, test cards and related documentation (e.g. TDS (Test Definition Sheets), THA (Test Hazard Analysis), Flight Test Orders & Reports, etc.)
- Observe/Adhere to: (i) FAA (Federal Aviation Authorities), and TC (Transport Canada/National Aircraft Certification) regulations for flight test, (ii) proper use of safety risk management tools and processes, and (iii) test equipment operating procedures and limitations
- Provide oversight on the test aircraft or FTV’s (Flight Test Vehicle) configuration and ensure conformity is appropriate and/or applicable for test
- Conduct or execute testing onboard an FTV, or modified production aircraft and/or Systems Integrated Test Stand/Rig (SITS/R)
- Operate FTV flight test equipment and/or DAS (Data Acquisition System)
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Aerospace and/or Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent combination of education and related experience
- 15+ years in a flight test environment for commercial/civil large category aircraft
- Flight experience (e.g. gliding and/or private pilot license) is considered an asset, but not a prerequisite
Skills:
- MS Office Suite – Intermediate (Excel, PPT, Word, Outlook)
- You have a very good understanding in the following areas:
- flight test practices and principles
- civil transport category large aircraft certification requirements
- aircraft systems and their operation
- You have the ability to read/interpret aircraft system schematics
- You have familiarity with DAS (Data Acquisition Systems) and FTI (Flight Test Instrumentation)
- You are self-motivated and exhibit good communication, planning, problem solving, and organization skills
- Strong time management skills
