FOUNDRY WELDER (RAPTOR)
The Foundry Welder is part of a team performing welding operations on Raptor Engine castings. This position requires skill in a specialized trade to complete welding requirements and operational needs. This role requires learning the details of our processes as they evolve, and leveraging that understanding to use equipment and propose improvements to help SpaceX make world-changing launch vehicles and spacecraft. The strongest candidates are able to produce high-quality work in a timely manner while continually supporting needed process improvements, streamlining of work, and cost savings.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Repair casting defects via grinding, welding and blending
- Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan welding operations; read and interpret work instructions and part drawings (blueprints and CAD)
- Use precision calibrated tools –micrometers, depth gauges and calipers
- Make a continuous effort to improve operations, decrease process time, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly
- Operate general shop equipment and vehicles (forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts, etc.)
- Safely operate shot blasting equipment on cast metal parts with a variety of blasting media
- Support material removal strategies in partnership with design engineers
- Conduct in-process inspection
- Provide hands-on support to other foundry areas when developing prototype and production hardware
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Take operational ownership of the weld area equipment and processes
- Take initiative in problem solving, cost reductions, and process improvement
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 1+ years of experience with TIG welding in a manufacturing environment or certificate of completion for welding from an accredited program within the last 2 years
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 2+ years of experience TIG welding aerospace parts or castings in a production environment; familiarity with AMS2694 Aerospace Material Specification
- Familiarity with AWS D17.1 aerospace requirements; knowledge in standard tools, materials, motions, and practices of the welding trade; knowledge in occupational hazards and effective safety precautions of the trade
- 6G weld certification at previous employment within 1 years or from accredited institution
- Experience with investment casting
- Experience taking products from design to production and/or starting up new work centers and documenting info to establish solid processes
- Ability to interpret PT/RT defects and repair within provided dimensional conformance guidelines
- Able to interpret dimensional reports and repair parts back to within tolerance
- Excellent hand work
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated professional track record of creative problem solving, cost reductions, and process improvement
- Excellent attention to detail
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Level 1: $22.00 - $27.00/hour
Level 2: $25.00 - $32.50/hour
Level 3: $30.00 - $38.00/hour
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
