The EPISCenter Operations Director will lead a team of 50 personnel including one-over-one reports. The scope of responsibility comprises of overall site leadership including the office building and connected state-of-art world class power systems integration test facility, EHS, security, shipping & receiving, test automation and NPI Accelerator Lab. In this role, you will be accountable for safe and effective test execution, meet program needs from prototype development to flight worthiness and qualification testing.At GE Aerospace in Dayton, OH the EPISCenter (Electrical Power Integration Systems Center) is the headquarters for all of Aviation Power Engineering. At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use. Our Engineers are focused and challenged on developing new technologies and delivering state of the art products such as Hybrid Electric aircraft, the latest military platforms, and SiC technology to name a few. Plus, if you like hands-on work, there is also a 155,000 sq ft lab that includes 6 high power test cells totaling 15 MW, an EMI chamber, an electronics lab, a rapid build prototype lab, and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.

Job Description

Role & Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of all who work in the facility, at all times
  • Lead and drive the team performing product builds, verification, qualification, reliability, and endurance testing of aerospace power systems or sub systems
  • Provide oversight of facility maintenance and facility improvement projects
  • Lead teams in day to day management operations such as, but not limited to: test cell scheduling, project task executions, Test Readiness Reviews, Management of Change, procurement, calibration and repair of lab equipment
  • Prepare cost estimates and proposal inputs
  • Maintain awareness of efforts within group to assure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources, and responsiveness to customer/program needs
  • Communicate technical, organizational, resource, and personnel issues with upper management
  • Ensure company compliance initiatives and training requirements are implemented

Leadership & Team Management

  • Oversee every function in the labs, promoting a safety-first culture and ensuring compliance with applicable GE Aerospace policies.
  • Drive lasting operational efficiencies through FLIGHT DECK including Standard Work, Daily Management and Problem Solving.
  • Provide leadership development and performance feedback to EPISCenter personnel
  • Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external customers & suppliers.

Operational Excellence

  • Demonstrating leadership commitment, engaging employees, and implementing stop-work practices when necessary
  • Ensure that EPISCenter execution meets or exceeds performance targets in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Productivity
  • Develop and track expense and investment budgets with the input of each organization
  • Establish and adjust an organizational structure that best supports the EPISCenter goals and measurements

Quality and Compliance

  • Establish and enforce rigorous quality control standards to ensure build and test labs operate according to required standards
  • Maintain compliance with operational and financial transactions in accordance with GE Aerospace policies
  • Develop and enforce a quality at the source QMS

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 10 years of technical or operational leadership experience

Additional Information

  • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens.  GE will require proof of status.
  • Ability to be onsite 5 days per week at our Dayton, OH facility

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Leadership experience in aerospace systems integration and test
  • Prior experience with a focus on managing technical programs and designing and developing new products related to solving product issues
  • Prior experience with New Product Development (NPI) process
  • Prior experience with Lean management system
  • Strong coaching expertise and success in working across the business functions, other GE businesses, and the global teams
  • Strong business acumen

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
