Job Summary: To press form a variety of sheet metal parts. May be required to assist lower grade operators.
Job Responsibilities:
Sets up and operates hydraulic draw press to form a variety of sheet metal parts such as door skins, bulkheads, nose camps and fuel tank sections, where standard operating methods are available, but the operator is regularly called upon to exercise judgement to plan and layout operation and set up sequences.
Selects from three drawing actions, the correct procedure for each series of parts and sets machine accordingly.
Judges amount of cushion and ram pressure needed, according to draw to be made, and sets control.
Uses oil or soap solution to lubricate parts, place on die block and position rubber pad over sheet metal to prevent fracturing of part during forming process. Visually checks each part for wrinkles, tears, and proper contour.
Uses carloader to transport die blocks and a variety of hand tools such as pry bar, crescent wrench, screwdriver, and mallet to aid in setting up machine.
Responsible only for own work.
Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Education: Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification.
Experience: Requires a minimum of one year draw press, hydraulic press or related experience required to perform job duties.
Working Conditions: Somewhat disagreeable working conditions due to exposure to oil, grease, and noise.
